Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic Acid: What you need to know
From the physician - plastic surgeon Antonios Micheloudakis
Hyaluronic acid is used widely today in plastic surgery to fill cavities and wrinkles of the face, and also give volume to the lips.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that constitutes a basic element of the skin layer known as chorion. In the form of a colourless gel it is used as an injectable implant for the improvement of aging wrinkles and the augmentation of the lips or cheek bones.
More recently it is also available as a nutritional supplement, however there is still some skeptisism whether potable hyaluronic acid offers indeed benefits to the body.
Hyaluronic acid is extremely hydrophilic: only 1 gram of hyaluronic acid can retain more than 1 litre of water. Its hydrophilic property is very important for the maintenance of skin hydration, but also it functions as a lubricant factor for collagen, which is an important connective tissue that provides elasticity and absorbency.
The areas to which it is apllied on the face are:
1) nasoparietal furrows
2) corners of mouth
3) upper lip (smoker’s wrinkles)
4) for the improvement of the lip contour
5) for increase of lip volume
6) for increase of cheek bone volume
Hyaluronic acid is applied in the medical office with a special syringe and needle. After application soft massaging is required.
A basic advantage of the therapy is the natural look of the result assuming that the application of the medication will be performed correctly and by a specialized plastic surgeon.
The same applies for its duration, so only low prices should not tempt you*.
The results are immediately visible in 80% with the final result showing in approximately 10 days.
* At Beauty Plastic the cost of the therapy with hyaluronic acid is individualized depending on the product, the amount, but also the parts that will be selected for application.
